Is Mitt Romney a Follower of Thomas Jefferson?
Is Mitt Romney a Follower of Thomas Jefferson? The Writer of Federalist Papers Thomas Jefferson was very much concerned about religion. His religious views were strong and he was active in the Baptist church, as well as being a Freemason. He wrote the Declaration of Independence about religion, religion and more religion in particular. He said in the third paragraph:'We profess not to disbelieve in the morality, laws, or motives, of any Christians; but we detest, with every feeling of propriety, any encroachment of its doctrines or opinions on the civil rights of any of our fellow citizens.'In fact the former chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Thomas Jefferson wrote these thoughts in a letter that is now housed at the Library of Congress. One can imagine what Thomas Jefferson would have thought of Mitt Romney's religion! It is interesting to note that Mitt Romney, in the same writing mentioned above, refers to the church as our nation's greatest tool. It should be noted that ther e are many religions in this country which encourage fundamentalism and the worship of things other than God. In fact many of these are churches, which pretend to be Churches when they are in fact extremely different, not Christian Churches. We should be careful of politicians who claim to have a religion, yet do not practice it in their public life, that is, they seem to have no religion of their own. If Mitt Romney is claiming that he is a Christian and yet does not practice what he preaches, we must be careful. A man with a faith system like Mormonism can believe whatever he wants, but when he lives by his belief it could easily lead to a disaster. For example, John McCain claimed that he was a Mormon. Yet he did not practice the Mormon code of ethics, nor did he practice what he preached. Is this the type of leader we want in the Oval Office, which is ultimately what Romney claims he is?In addition, we should ask Mitt Romney, who really wrote those writings, because he certainly d id not write them in his own words. He certainly knew someone elsewho may have written them for him. Indeed we do not want politicians dictating to us, especially in matters that are important. However, if one can not write his own ideas, but rather plagiarize from another person, that is deplorable and must be condemned by all decent, patriotic Americans, including Mitt Romney. Please consider all this.
